Cookie Policy
This page explains the cookies and similar technologies NewsVaultHQ uses and how you control them.
What cookies and similar technologies are
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. Similar technologies, such as browser local storage and offline caches, store information on your device to make a site work or remember your choices.
Your choices
When you first visit, we ask whether you accept optional technologies. You can accept all, reject non-essential technologies, or choose by category. Rejecting is as easy as accepting, and essential features keep working either way. Optional technologies do not run until you allow them.
You can review, change or withdraw your choice at any time using “Cookie settings” in the footer of every page, or here:
Your choice is saved on your device for this site, and applies in the browser and in the installed NewsVaultHQ app on the same device. We store only which categories you allowed, the version of this notice, and when you chose. We may ask again if this policy changes in a meaningful way.
1. Essential (always on)
- Security and site delivery: our hosting provider sets short-lived cookies (such as
__cf_bmand__dpl) to protect the site from automated abuse and serve the correct version. - Consent choice: remembers your cookie choices (
nvhq-consent, local storage). - App and offline storage: lets the NewsVaultHQ app install, load faster and show recently read pages offline.
- Preferences and navigation: remembers choices such as notification topics and in-tab back/forward history.
- Notifications: only if you turn them on, your browser stores the permission needed to deliver alerts.
- Staff sign-in: keeps newsroom staff signed in to the private staff area. This does not apply to readers.
2. Analytics (optional)
With your permission we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand traffic, which pages and stories are read, content performance and how readers use the site. It sets cookies named _ga and _ga_<ID>, which last up to about 13 months. If you do not allow Analytics, the Google Analytics tag is not loaded. If you withdraw permission, we stop sending data and remove these cookies from this site.
Our own story-view count does not use cookies (see our Privacy Policy).
3. Advertising (optional)
NewsVaultHQ intends to use Google advertising (Google AdSense) in future to support its journalism. No ads are shown and no advertising code runs on the site today; the category exists so you can make your choice in advance. When advertising starts, Google may use cookies (such as _gcl_au) to show and measure ads and, only if you allow it, to personalise them. We will update this policy before advertising begins.
Managing cookies in your browser
You can also view, block or delete cookies and site data in your browser settings. Blocking essential storage may stop some features, such as offline reading or notifications, from working.
Changes
We will update this policy whenever the technologies we use change.
