Editorial Policy
The standards NewsVaultHQ aims to follow when reporting, editing and correcting stories.
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions about what we cover and how are made by the NewsVaultHQ editorial team. Advertising or business relationships do not decide our coverage. If any content is ever paid for or sponsored, it will be clearly labelled.
Accuracy and verification
We work to check facts before we publish. We rely on official statements, named sources and reputable outlets, and we try to confirm important claims with more than one source where we can. We cannot independently verify every detail of every story. Where information is unconfirmed, we say so.
Source attribution
We say where information comes from. When we report information first published by another outlet, we credit it. We grant anonymity only when there is a good reason, and we never invent sources or quotes.
News, rumour, analysis and opinion
Stories are labelled by type. Transfer rumours are presented as reports and speculation, not as confirmed facts. Opinion and analysis reflect the writer's judgement and are kept separate from news reporting.
Breaking and developing stories
Early reports of fast-moving events can be incomplete. We update developing stories as we learn more and show when a story was last updated.
Photographs and media
We use images we have the right to use and credit them where required. Images are not edited in a way that misleads readers. Captions describe what an image shows.
Use of software and AI tools
Staff may use software tools, including AI, to spot trending topics or prepare first drafts. Such drafts are always checked, edited and approved by a human editor before publication, and are never published automatically.
Conflicts of interest
Writers and editors are expected to avoid covering matters in which they have a personal or financial interest, or to disclose that interest to the editor.
Corrections and reader feedback
If we get something wrong, we aim to correct it promptly and make clear that a significant change has been made. To report an error or send feedback, please use Contact Us.
