Information you choose to give us

If you contact us using the details on our Contact Us page, we receive the information you send, such as your name, email address and message. We use it only to respond to you.

The NewsVaultHQ Briefing

If you sign up for the Briefing newsletter, we store your email address, sign-up date and confirmation status. We send a confirmation email first and only add you once you confirm. Every newsletter includes an unsubscribe link; after unsubscribing we stop sending to you. Emails are delivered by our email service provider on our behalf.

Story notifications

If you turn on notifications, your browser gives us a technical delivery address and keys that let us send alerts to your device, together with the topics you choose and basic browser information. These do not contain your name or email address. You can turn notifications off at any time in your browser or device settings, after which we stop sending alerts.

Reading statistics

To count how many times a story is read, we record a one-way, scrambled code per story per day. We do not store your IP address or browser details for this purpose, and the code cannot be used to identify you.

Cookies and similar technologies

We always use the storage needed for the site and app to work, such as security, remembering your preferences and keeping staff signed in. Optional analytics and advertising technologies run only if you allow them. See our Cookie Policy; you can change your choice at any time with “Cookie settings” in the footer.

Analytics (Google Analytics 4)

If you allow Analytics, we use Google Analytics 4, provided by Google, to understand traffic and how stories and pages are used. Google receives information such as the pages you view, the referring page, device and browser type, approximate location derived from your IP address, and a random identifier stored in a cookie. We do not send your name, email address or other directly identifying details. Google processes this data on our behalf and it may be processed outside Nigeria. If you do not allow Analytics, the Google Analytics tag is not loaded; staff screens are never tracked. You can withdraw at any time in Cookie settings, and you can learn more in how Google uses information from sites that use its services.

Advertising

NewsVaultHQ does not currently show ads. We plan to use Google AdSense in future. Before it starts, we will update this policy to describe the data involved. Advertising technologies will run only according to your Advertising choice, and personalised ads only if you allow them.

Third-party services

The site runs on hosting and database providers that process data on our behalf to deliver the service. Sports data such as fixtures and scores is supplied by a sports data provider; your personal data is not sent to them. Links to other websites are governed by those sites' own policies.

Sharing

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with service providers who help us run the site, or where the law requires it.

Retention and security

We keep information only as long as it is needed for the purposes above. Notification addresses that stop working are removed. We use access controls and encrypted connections to protect information, although no online service can be completely secure.

Your rights

We aim to handle personal data in line with applicable data protection laws, including the Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 for readers in Nigeria. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct or delete your personal information, or to object to its use, and to withdraw consent at any time without affecting earlier processing. Changes to this policy

We will update this policy when our services or data practices change, including whenever a new third-party service is added.
