England Lions defeat West Indies A by 17 runs in the T20 series.

England Lions produced a disciplined performance to defeat West Indies A by 17 runs in the second unofficial T20 international on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at Conaree Sports Club in St Kitts.

After being put under pressure during their innings, the Lions managed to post 151 all out in 18.5 overs. West Indies A responded with determination but could only reach 134/7 after their allotted 20 overs, falling short of the 152-run target.

The result reflected England’s ability to recover from difficult moments with the bat before using their bowling resources effectively to prevent the home side from completing the chase.

For West Indies A, there were encouraging individual performances, particularly from Alick Athanaze and Sadrack Descartes. However, their contributions were not enough to overturn the advantage established by the visitors.

England Lions Set a Competitive Target

England Lions entered the first innings looking to put a challenging total on the board, but their progress was far from straightforward. The visitors experienced regular setbacks and struggled to maintain a consistent partnership throughout their innings.

Their opening pair failed to establish the kind of foundation required in a T20 contest. Ben McKinney was dismissed without scoring after facing five deliveries, while Thomas Rew managed 11 from six balls before becoming Jakeem Pollard’s second victim.

Rehan Ahmed provided an important contribution with 31 runs from 21 deliveries. His innings included four boundaries and a six, helping England maintain a reasonable scoring rate despite losing wickets at the other end.

James Rew also played an important role, scoring 28 from 19 balls. He struck five boundaries and ensured the Lions continued to collect runs during a period when West Indies A were looking to take control of the contest.

Jack Haynes contributed 11 from 10 deliveries, while Ben Mayes added 17 from 16 balls. Although neither batter produced a major innings, their contributions helped England avoid a complete collapse during the middle overs.

Liam Patterson-White remained unbeaten on 22 from 17 deliveries, including a boundary and a six. His late contribution proved valuable in pushing the visitors beyond the 150-run mark.

Eddie Jack provided another useful addition with 21 from 13 balls, hitting two fours and a six. His attacking approach helped England add important runs towards the end of the innings.

However, the lower order could not maintain the momentum for long. Calvin Harrison and Scott Currie departed without scoring, while Naavya Sharma managed just one run.

England Lions eventually finished on 151 all out in 18.5 overs, with nine extras also contributing to their total. Although they were unable to bat through the full 20 overs, 152 represented a competitive target that required a strong response from the hosts.

Jakeem Pollard Leads West Indies A’s Bowling Effort

West Indies A had several bowlers contributing to the effort, but Jakeem Pollard delivered the most impressive individual performance.

Pollard claimed four wickets for 20 runs in 2.5 overs, putting considerable pressure on England’s batting order. His ability to strike at important moments prevented the visitors from building a more substantial total.

Vitel Lawes also made a significant contribution, taking two wickets for 25 runs from his four overs. Zishan Motara finished with two wickets for 27 runs, while Karima Gore claimed one wicket after conceding 22 runs.

Sadrack Descartes picked up one wicket but was more expensive, giving away 36 runs in three overs. Keon Gaston went wicketless in his two overs, conceding 17 runs.

Pollard’s four-wicket performance stood out as one of the major highlights of the first innings. Nevertheless, England’s late contributions ensured West Indies A still had a challenging chase ahead of them.

West Indies A Struggle Before Athanaze and Descartes Respond

Chasing 152, West Indies A needed a confident start to keep themselves within reach of the required scoring rate. However, England Lions quickly made the contest difficult by taking wickets and restricting the hosts’ scoring opportunities.

Kamil Pooran offered an early contribution with 18 runs from 15 deliveries. His innings included two fours and a six, but he was unable to convert his start into a bigger score after being caught off Scott Currie’s bowling.

Zachary Carter endured a difficult time at the crease, managing just six runs from 19 deliveries. His dismissal placed additional pressure on the home side, particularly as the required run rate continued to demand a more aggressive approach.

Jewel Andrew also failed to make a significant impact, scoring four from six balls before departing. His dismissal further complicated West Indies A’s attempt to establish a strong partnership.

With wickets falling, Alick Athanaze became an important figure in the chase. The left-handed batter demonstrated his ability to score quickly, producing 43 runs from 30 deliveries.

Athanaze struck two fours and three sixes, combining controlled stroke play with attacking shots whenever the opportunity presented itself. His innings gave West Indies A a realistic chance of challenging the target.

However, his dismissal proved costly. Athanaze was bowled by Scott Currie, bringing an end to an innings that had provided much-needed stability.

Karima Gore managed eight runs from 15 deliveries but could not provide the acceleration required to put England under serious pressure. His dismissal left the responsibility of keeping the chase alive largely with the remaining batters.

Sadrack Descartes Gives West Indies A Late Hope

Sadrack Descartes produced one of the most encouraging performances of the match with an aggressive innings that briefly gave West Indies A hope of pulling off the chase.

Coming in during a difficult period, Descartes showed determination and attacked the bowling whenever possible. He finished with 49 runs from 33 deliveries, striking two fours and four sixes.

His innings was particularly important because West Indies A needed someone capable of maintaining the scoring rate while protecting the remaining wickets.

Descartes found some support from the lower order, but the damage caused by the earlier dismissals meant the hosts had too much ground to recover.

Quentin Sampson was dismissed for a duck after facing just one delivery, further increasing the pressure. Keon Gaston remained unbeaten on one run, but the remaining batting resources were not enough to complete the task.

Despite Descartes coming close to a half-century, West Indies A finished on 134/7 in their 20 overs, falling 17 runs short of the target.

Scott Currie and Calvin Harrison Help England Secure Victory

England Lions’ bowling performance was central to the result, with Scott Currie delivering an outstanding spell during the second innings.

Currie claimed three wickets for just eight runs in his three overs, maintaining an excellent economy rate and disrupting West Indies A’s batting progress. His dismissals included Kamil Pooran, Alick Athanaze and Quentin Sampson.

Calvin Harrison also played a key role, finishing with two wickets for 27 runs from four overs. His contribution helped England maintain control when the hosts were attempting to build momentum.

Eddie Jack claimed one wicket while conceding 13 runs in two overs. Rehan Ahmed and Liam Patterson-White did not take wickets, but their spells formed part of the bowling effort that restricted West Indies A to 134.

The visitors showed composure throughout the defence, ensuring that Descartes’ late attacking effort did not develop into a match-winning partnership.

England Lions Take the Result as West Indies A Fall Short

England Lions will be pleased with the manner in which they defended their total, particularly after losing all ten wickets before completing their 20 overs.

Their batting was built around several useful contributions rather than one dominant innings, while their bowlers stepped up when the contest demanded control.

For West Indies A, Athanaze and Descartes provided positive signs, but the team will be disappointed by the lack of substantial contributions from the rest of the batting order.

The inability to establish partnerships during the chase ultimately made the difference. Although the hosts had moments of encouragement, England maintained enough pressure to prevent a late turnaround.

The 17-run victory gives England Lions another important result in their tour of the Caribbean and provides further confidence in the performances of their developing players.

West Indies A, meanwhile, will need to improve their batting consistency and find better ways to manage pressure situations as the teams continue their unofficial T20 series.

Ultimately, England Lions earned their victory through a balanced team performance, combining useful contributions with the bat and an effective bowling display when it mattered most.
