Lamine Yamal has added another major individual honour to his rapidly growing collection after being named Men’s Young Talent of the Year at the 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony.

The Barcelona and Spain forward collected the award at the London Palladium on Monday, October 26, marking the third consecutive year he has won the prestigious prize. His latest success makes him the first footballer to claim the award three times in a row, following his victories in 2024 and 2025.

At just 19 years old, Yamal is already establishing himself as one of the biggest names in world football. His extraordinary rise has seen him move from Barcelona’s academy to becoming one of the club’s most important attacking players, while also playing a major role for the Spanish national team.

Another historic Kopa Trophy triumph

Yamal’s latest award is another chapter in his remarkable relationship with the Kopa Trophy, which recognises the best-performing male player aged 21 or under.

His first victory came in 2024, when he became the youngest recipient of the award. He successfully defended the trophy in 2025 before completing the hat-trick in 2026.

The achievement places him in a category of his own. Barcelona teammate Pau Cubarsí was among the contenders this year, alongside several other highly rated young players, but Yamal once again came out on top.

Interestingly, Yamal was quick to praise his Barcelona teammate after receiving the trophy. During his acceptance speech, he said he would have liked Cubarsí to win because of the defender’s performances and consistency. He also thanked Barcelona, the Spanish national team and everyone who has supported him.

A sensational 2025/26 season

Yamal’s award was backed by another outstanding campaign for both club and country.

With Barcelona, the winger helped the club win La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup during the 2025/26 season. He finished the campaign with 24 goals and 16 assists across competitions, while his performances in the league earned him the La Liga Player of the Season award.

His league numbers were particularly impressive. Yamal scored 16 goals and provided 11 assists in La Liga, finishing as the competition’s leading assist provider. His creativity, close control and ability to beat defenders consistently made him one of Barcelona’s most dangerous players.

For a player who had only recently entered his teenage years when he first broke into Barcelona’s senior team, his continued influence at the highest level has been remarkable.

World Cup glory with Spain

Yamal’s 2026 campaign became even more memorable because of what he achieved with Spain.

The young forward was part of the Spanish side that won the 2026 FIFA World Cup, adding the biggest prize in international football to his growing list of accomplishments. He scored against Saudi Arabia during the tournament and produced standout performances in Spain’s knockout-stage run. He was also named player of the match against Austria and Belgium.

Spain eventually defeated Argentina in the final on July 19, giving Yamal his first World Cup title.

The triumph followed his European Championship success in 2024. Yamal had already made history at that tournament by becoming the youngest player to appear at a European Championship and helping Spain lift the trophy at just 16 years old.

His international career began even earlier. He made his senior Spain debut against Georgia in September 2023 at only 16 years, one month and 26 days old and scored in the same match.

From La Masia prospect to global superstar

Yamal’s development has been one of the most remarkable stories in modern football.

Born in Mataró, Spain, and raised in the Rocafonda area, he joined Barcelona’s famed La Masia academy and progressed rapidly through the youth ranks. His technical ability, confidence and creativity quickly separated him from his peers.

Rather than being protected from the demands of elite football, Yamal has increasingly become central to Barcelona’s attack.

His preferred position is on the right side, where he can use his left foot to cut inside, create chances and attack defenders one-on-one. His dribbling ability and vision have made him particularly difficult to contain, while his improved finishing has added another dimension to his game.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or profile lists his 2025/26 season at 57 appearances, 25 goals and 20 assists, underlining just how influential he became for club and country.

A growing list of achievements

Yamal’s trophy cabinet is already impressive for a player who is still only 19.

Among his biggest achievements are three Kopa Trophy victories, three La Liga titles, the 2024 European Championship, the 2025 Nations League and the 2026 World Cup. He has also won the 2025/26 La Liga Player of the Season award and the 2026 Laureus World Young Sportsperson of the Year award.

His three consecutive Young Talent awards are perhaps the clearest indication of his dominance among football’s emerging stars.

Barcelona have also benefited enormously from his development. The club’s success with young players has been one of the defining features of its recent era, and Yamal has quickly become the face of that new generation.

The Ballon d’Or dream continues

Winning the Young Talent of the Year award was not the only reason Yamal was in London.

The Barcelona star was also nominated for the 2026 men’s Ballon d’Or, placing him among the leading players competing for football’s biggest individual prize.

Whether or not he ultimately takes home the main award, his presence among the leading contenders demonstrates how dramatically his status has changed.

Only a few years ago, Yamal was viewed as one of Barcelona’s most exciting academy prospects. Now, he is competing against established superstars for the most prestigious individual honour in the sport.

At 19, there is still plenty of room for him to develop. Yet his achievements already suggest that Yamal is not simply the future of Barcelona and Spanish football.

He is already one of the present-day stars of the game.

And with a third consecutive Young Talent award now secured, Lamine Yamal has once again reminded the football world that his extraordinary rise shows no sign of slowing down.
