Leeds United Return to Winning Ways Against Tottenham

Leeds United secured an important 1-0 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in the Premier League on Saturday, November 7, 2026, ending their frustrating run without a league win. A late second-half goal from substitute Noah Okafor proved enough to separate the two sides in an entertaining contest at Elland Road.

The result was particularly important for Daniel Farke’s team, who entered the fixture under pressure to produce a positive response after struggling to find consistency in their recent league performances. Facing a Tottenham side that arrived with confidence following three consecutive Premier League victories, Leeds needed a determined display to secure all three points.

Although the visitors enjoyed a greater share of possession, Leeds demonstrated that controlling the ball does not necessarily guarantee a favourable result. The home side created more shooting opportunities, showed greater attacking intent as the match progressed and eventually found the breakthrough that their second-half performance deserved.

Tottenham, meanwhile, struggled to turn their possession advantage into a decisive attacking performance. Despite enjoying long spells on the ball, Roberto De Zerbi’s players found it difficult to consistently penetrate Leeds’ defensive structure.

The opening 45 minutes ended without a goal, but the second half brought greater urgency from the hosts. Their persistence eventually paid off when Okafor came off the bench and scored the only goal of the afternoon.

A Competitive First Half at Elland Road

Both teams approached the contest with clear intentions, although Leeds initially looked more energetic in front of their home supporters. The atmosphere at Elland Road provided additional motivation for the hosts, who understood the importance of getting a positive result before the international break.

Tottenham gradually settled into the encounter and began to enjoy more possession. Their ability to move the ball across the pitch allowed them to dictate certain periods of the game, but Leeds remained organised and worked hard to prevent the visitors from creating clear opportunities.

One of the major talking points of the first half involved Leeds defender Jayden Bogle and Tottenham forward Mathys Tel. Bogle brought down the Spurs attacker with a challenge that caught him around the Achilles area, immediately attracting attention from the Tottenham players and coaching staff.

Referee John Brooks initially awarded a foul, but the incident became more controversial when VAR reviewed the challenge for a possible red card. After several minutes of consideration, the officials decided against recommending an on-field review, allowing Bogle to escape further punishment.

The decision frustrated Tottenham, particularly because Tel was unable to continue and was replaced by Dominic Solanke in the 43rd minute. It was an unfortunate moment for the visitors, who had to adjust their attacking arrangements before the interval.

Leeds also had opportunities to make progress before half-time, but neither side managed to find the breakthrough. Both teams returned to the dressing rooms with the score still goalless.

Leeds Increase the Pressure After Half-Time

The second half developed into a more demanding contest for Tottenham as Leeds began to find greater confidence going forward.

Farke’s team showed more determination in their attacking movements, using their physical presence and movement in the final third to put pressure on the visitors. Their approach gradually forced Tottenham deeper and created opportunities for the home side to test goalkeeper Antonín Kinský.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin came close to giving Leeds the lead following a corner, but his headed effort was prevented from crossing the line by Dominic Solanke. The rebound also presented an opportunity, although Leeds were unable to capitalise.

Ao Tanaka subsequently wasted another promising opening when he lifted his effort over the crossbar from inside the penalty area.

Tottenham attempted to regain control through their passing game, but Leeds continued to threaten whenever they moved forward. The visitors made several substitutions around the 65th minute, introducing Conor Gallagher, Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in an effort to change the direction of the contest.

Gallagher came close to providing a response when he drove an effort narrowly wide following a Tottenham attacking move.

However, Leeds continued to create the more threatening opportunities. Sean Longstaff was denied by an excellent save from Kinský after controlling a cross and producing an effort that appeared destined to find the net.

The Tottenham goalkeeper’s intervention temporarily kept his side in the contest, but the pressure from Leeds was becoming increasingly difficult to contain.

Noah Okafor Comes Off the Bench to Decide the Game

With the match approaching its final stages, Farke turned to his substitutes in search of the goal that would give Leeds the advantage.

Noah Okafor and Harry Wilson were introduced in the 77th minute, replacing Lukas Nmecha and Ao Tanaka respectively. It did not take long for the changes to make a difference.

Just two minutes after entering the pitch, Okafor delivered the decisive moment of the afternoon.

The Swiss forward reacted quickly to a loose ball inside the Tottenham penalty area, took a touch to compose himself and fired a powerful finish into the corner beyond Kinský.

The goal sent Elland Road into celebration as Leeds finally found the breakthrough they had been searching for. It was an excellent contribution from a player who had spent most of the afternoon waiting for his opportunity from the bench.

Okafor’s introduction gave Leeds additional attacking energy, and his ability to recognise the opportunity and finish under pressure demonstrated why substitutions can become decisive in closely contested matches.

Tottenham immediately faced the challenge of finding an equaliser, but Leeds remained determined to protect their advantage.

The visitors pushed forward during the closing stages, hoping to rescue a point, but their attempts were repeatedly met by a disciplined Leeds defence.

One of their best opportunities arrived in stoppage time when Jan Paul van Hecke directed a header towards goal. James Trafford produced an important save, diving to his left to keep the effort out and preserve Leeds’ advantage.

The final whistle confirmed a valuable victory for the home side, who had worked hard throughout the afternoon to secure the result.

Match Statistics Show Leeds’ Attacking Intent

The statistics from the encounter highlighted the difference between Tottenham’s possession advantage and Leeds’ ability to create attacking opportunities.

Tottenham finished the match with 61 per cent possession compared to Leeds’ 39 per cent. However, the hosts registered 16 total shots, more than twice Tottenham’s seven attempts.

Both teams recorded four shots on target, but Leeds produced eight efforts off target and had four attempts blocked. Tottenham managed three shots off target and did not register a blocked shot in the displayed statistics.

Leeds also recorded 11 attempts from inside the penalty area, while Tottenham managed five. The home side created three big chances and missed them, compared with one big chance missed by the visitors.

These figures underline how Leeds managed to make their attacking opportunities count despite spending less time with the ball.

Tottenham’s inability to translate possession into sufficient clear-cut chances ultimately proved costly. Their passing numbers were considerably higher, but the home side demonstrated greater effectiveness in the areas that mattered most.

Tarik Muharemović Named Man of the Match

While Noah Okafor deserved considerable recognition for scoring the winning goal, Tarik Muharemović was selected as the Man of the Match for his performance against Tottenham.

The Leeds defender played an important role in helping his team withstand the visitors’ attacking efforts and maintain their defensive organisation throughout the encounter.

Facing a Tottenham side that enjoyed 61 per cent possession was never going to be an easy assignment for the Leeds backline. The home defenders needed concentration, discipline and good communication to prevent the visitors from taking advantage of their time on the ball.

Muharemović’s contribution was particularly valuable as Leeds attempted to protect their lead during the closing stages. Tottenham increased their attacking pressure after conceding, but Leeds managed to remain composed and prevent the visitors from finding an equaliser.

His recognition also highlights the importance of defensive performances in matches where the difference between the two teams is decided by a single goal.

Although Okafor will understandably receive much of the attention following his match-winning contribution, Muharemović’s display deserved its own recognition. Football matches are not decided by goalscorers alone, and Leeds needed a strong collective performance to secure the result.

His Man of the Match award was therefore a fitting acknowledgement of the defensive work that helped the hosts leave Elland Road with all three points.

What the Result Means for Both Teams

For Leeds United, the victory provides a much-needed boost after a difficult period in the Premier League. Ending their five-match winless run gives Farke’s players an opportunity to approach the international break with renewed confidence.

It also represents an encouraging response from a team that had been searching for greater consistency. The ability to defeat a strong Tottenham side without dominating possession could become an important source of belief for the remainder of the campaign.

The performance also demonstrated the value of Farke’s decisions from the bench. Okafor’s introduction changed the outcome, while the team’s overall second-half improvement showed that Leeds were willing to adapt when their initial approach was not producing the desired result.

For Tottenham, the defeat represents a disappointing interruption to their recent progress. De Zerbi’s side had been targeting a fourth consecutive league victory, but their inability to convert possession into goals prevented them from achieving that objective.

The controversial Bogle challenge will also remain a talking point, particularly given Tel’s injury and the decision not to issue a red card.

Nevertheless, Tottenham will need to look beyond that incident and address their attacking shortcomings if they are to maintain their ambitions in the league.

Leeds, meanwhile, can celebrate a victory built on persistence, defensive discipline and an excellent contribution from their substitutes.

With Okafor providing the decisive finish and Muharemović earning individual recognition, the afternoon belonged to Leeds United.

Final Score: Leeds United 1-0 Tottenham Hotspur

Goal: Noah Okafor 79’

Man of the Match: Tarik Muharemović
