AC Milan have reached an agreement with Strahinja Pavlovic over a new long-term contract that will keep the Serbian defender at the club until June 2031.

The agreement represents a major commitment from the Rossoneri to a player who has gradually established himself as an important part of their defensive plans.

Pavlovic joined Milan from Red Bull Salzburg in 2024 and initially faced competition for a regular starting position. However, his performances have improved significantly, and the club now sees him as one of the defenders capable of playing an important role in the team’s future.

The new agreement will reportedly extend his stay at San Siro for several more seasons, giving Milan long-term security at the back while rewarding the 25-year-old for his development.

Pavlovic becomes an important part of Milan’s plans

When Pavlovic arrived in Italy, expectations were high because of the qualities he had already shown during his time in Austria.

The Serbian international is known for his physical strength, aggressive defending and ability to compete in difficult one-on-one situations. However, adapting to Serie A required time, particularly with the tactical demands placed on defenders in Italian football.

His first period at Milan was not always straightforward.

There were occasions when he found himself competing for his position, while questions were raised about whether he would become a permanent starter.

Instead of allowing those difficulties to affect his progress, Pavlovic continued working to improve his game.

His consistency eventually earned him greater trust, and he became increasingly important to the team.

That development has now convinced Milan to make a long-term commitment to him.

New contract until June 2031

The agreement will reportedly keep Pavlovic at Milan until June 2031.

The length of the proposed contract demonstrates how highly the club now values the defender.

Rather than waiting until his existing contract approaches its final stages, Milan have moved to secure his future early.

The decision also provides Pavlovic with greater stability as he continues his career at one of Europe’s most historic clubs.

For Milan, the agreement means they can plan their defence with Pavlovic as one of the players expected to remain part of the squad for the long term.

The club has been looking to build a team capable of competing for major honours, and maintaining continuity in defence is an important part of that project.

Amorim continues to trust Pavlovic

Rúben Amorim’s arrival has brought a new tactical approach to Milan, but Pavlovic has continued to be an important figure within the defensive structure.

The Portuguese coach demands considerable discipline from his defenders, particularly when the team changes shape during matches.

Pavlovic’s ability to operate in different defensive situations has helped him remain a trusted option.

His physical qualities also give Milan an additional advantage when dealing with opponents who rely on direct attacking football.

Amorim’s confidence in Pavlovic is another reason the club is prepared to make such a long-term commitment.

The defender still has several years ahead of him at the highest level, meaning Milan believe the best part of his career could still be in front of him.

Milan ready to reward his progress

The new agreement is also expected to come with an improved salary.

Pavlovic’s current earnings are believed to be significantly lower than what Milan are now prepared to offer.

Reports have indicated that his new salary could rise to between €3 million and €3.5 million net per season.

If completed on those terms, the increase would represent a significant reward for the progress he has made since joining the club.

It would also bring his salary closer to the level expected of an established first-team player at Milan.

The financial improvement reflects the club’s belief that Pavlovic has earned a more important status within the squad.

However, the exact financial details will depend on the final terms of the agreement and the completion of the formal paperwork.

Pavlovic wants to stay

Another important factor in the negotiations has been the player’s desire to continue his career in Milan.

Pavlovic has reportedly attracted interest from clubs outside Italy, including teams from the Premier League.

Despite that interest, the defender has shown a willingness to remain with the Rossoneri.

His decision is significant because Milan want players who are committed to the club’s long-term project.

Pavlovic has also settled into life in Milan, making his decision to remain at the club even more understandable.

Instead of looking for another challenge, the Serbian appears ready to continue developing at San Siro and compete for trophies with Milan.

A different story from his early days

Pavlovic’s expected renewal is particularly notable because his future at Milan was not always certain.

There were periods when his performances attracted criticism, and there was speculation that the club could eventually consider allowing him to leave.

His situation has changed considerably.

Rather than being viewed as a player who could be sold, Pavlovic is now being treated as an important part of the club’s long-term plans.

That transformation is a reflection of the work the defender has put into improving his performances.

It also highlights how quickly a player’s situation can change when he responds positively to competition and continues developing.

Defensive stability for Milan

The new deal will give Milan an important level of stability in defence.

Building a successful team requires more than signing new players every transfer window. Clubs also need to retain players who understand the team’s environment, tactical expectations and demands.

Pavlovic now has considerable experience of playing in Serie A and has also represented Milan in high-pressure matches.

Keeping him means Milan will have a defender who is already familiar with the club rather than having to find a replacement in the transfer market.

That could become particularly valuable as the club continues competing across domestic and European competitions.

Pavlovic’s future looks settled

At 25, Pavlovic still has plenty of time to develop further.

His physical strength and defensive aggression remain major parts of his game, while his experience at Milan should continue to improve his tactical understanding.

Working under Amorim could also help him add new dimensions to his game.

The coach’s tactical demands require defenders to be comfortable both defending and contributing to the team’s build-up play.

If Pavlovic continues progressing in those areas, he could become an even more complete defender during the next few seasons.

Milan secure another key player

The agreement with Pavlovic represents another step in Milan’s efforts to build a squad capable of competing at the highest level.

Securing a defender until 2031 gives the club a long-term solution while also sending a clear message about how highly they rate the Serbian international.

For Pavlovic, the new contract represents recognition of the progress he has made since arriving at San Siro.

His journey has gone from competing for a place in the team to becoming a player Milan are prepared to commit to for the next several years.

The agreement now puts the defender in a strong position to continue his development under Amorim and establish himself as one of the central figures in Milan’s defensive plans.

With the contract set to run until June 2031, both Pavlovic and Milan can now look towards the future with greater certainty.

The Serbian defender’s next challenge will be to justify the club’s faith in him on the pitch and help Milan compete for domestic and European honours in the seasons ahead.
