PSG players celebrate their emphatic victory over Villarreal.
Paris Saint-Germain delivered a ruthless performance against Villarreal, scoring four goals in the opening 17 minutes before completing a 6-0 victory. Fabián Ruiz was among the standout performers, scoring twice as the European champions maintained their perfect Champions League record.

Paris Saint-Germain produced a breathtaking performance at the Estadio de la Cerámica, sweeping Villarreal aside with a 6-0 victory in the UEFA Champions League league phase on Tuesday night. The reigning champions delivered one of the most ruthless opening spells of the competition this season, scoring four times inside the first 17 minutes before adding two more after the break.
PSG arrived in Spain looking to maintain their perfect start, while Villarreal hoped to make home advantage count. Instead, the hosts were overwhelmed by the visitors’ speed, pressing and movement, with defensive mistakes turning the contest into a one-sided affair.
João Neves opened the scoring in the ninth minute, reacting quickly after PSG caused problems from a corner. Villarreal failed to clear the danger and Neves made them pay from close range. It was the start of a remarkable sequence that left the home side chasing shadows and gave Luis Enrique’s team an early platform to take complete control.
Three minutes later, Désiré Doué doubled the advantage. Villarreal goalkeeper Péter Gulácsi was caught out during an attempt to play out from the back, allowing PSG to regain possession in a dangerous area. The ball reached Doué, who kept his composure and finished to make it 2-0. The goal exposed the risks in Villarreal’s build-up and intensified the pressure on a defence that was already struggling to cope with the visitors’ aggressive press.
PSG struck again in the 13th minute through Senny Mayulu. The young forward was alert as the visitors forced another turnover, and he converted to make it three. Villarreal had barely recovered from conceding the second goal before they were punished once more. PSG’s front line was pressing with purpose, while the midfield moved the ball quickly enough to take advantage of every opening.
The fourth goal arrived in the 17th minute, with Fabián Ruiz getting his name on the scoresheet. PSG worked the ball into the penalty area and Ruiz finished with a controlled, low effort to put the visitors four goals ahead. Four goals in 17 minutes represented a stunning start and set a new benchmark for the fastest a team had reached four goals in a Champions League match, according to match reports.
Villarreal were left with a mountain to climb. PSG continued to dictate the tempo, while the hosts struggled to settle and repeatedly invited pressure when trying to build from deep.
The half-time score was 4-0, reflecting PSG’s clinical finishing and the problems Villarreal had created for themselves. The visitors forced errors through coordinated pressing, sharp movement and quick combinations.
PSG did not allow the break to interrupt their momentum. Five minutes into the second half, Ruiz scored again to make it 5-0. The Spanish midfielder timed his run into the area, collected a precise pass from Vitinha and showed excellent composure to get past his marker before finishing beyond Gulácsi. It was a confident goal that completed his brace and further emphasised his influence on the match.
The sixth goal arrived in the 78th minute and brought a memorable moment for young defender David Boly. Having come on as a substitute, the teenager made an immediate impact on his Champions League appearance. PSG won the ball high up the pitch and Neves helped release Boly into space. He drove forward before sending a powerful effort towards goal. The shot took a slight deflection off a Villarreal defender, wrong-footing Gulácsi and finding the net.
For Boly, it was a special contribution to an extraordinary evening, and it completed the six-goal tally without Villarreal finding a response.
The statistics captured the scale of PSG’s dominance. The visitors held 71 per cent of possession and registered 22 shots, with 12 efforts on target. Villarreal managed 14 attempts, but only two were on target. PSG also recorded 18 attempts from inside the penalty area, compared with five for the home team. Those figures showed how consistently the French side reached dangerous positions and how difficult it was for Villarreal to keep them away from goal.
Villarreal’s problems were not limited to one area. Their attempts to play through PSG’s press repeatedly broke down, their defence struggled to track runners, and they could not create sustained pressure at the other end.
For PSG, the victory was another statement of their ambition to defend the European title. Their intensity did not drop after the early goals, and the second-half strikes showed that they remained focused even with the contest effectively decided. Luis Enrique’s side combined technical quality with collective discipline, while several attacking players contributed to the score sheet.
PSG moved to 12 points from four matches, maintaining a perfect record and strengthening their position in the race for a place in the last 16. Villarreal were left to reflect on a difficult night and the defensive improvements required before their next European fixture.
Man of the Match: Fabián Ruiz
Fabián Ruiz was the standout performer in a PSG side full of impressive displays. The midfielder scored twice, but his contribution went beyond the two finishes. He repeatedly found space between Villarreal’s midfield and defence, helped PSG keep possession moving and made intelligent forward runs that gave the visitors another route into the penalty area.
His first goal in the 17th minute was important because it capped PSG’s remarkable opening spell and pushed the score to 4-0. Rather than simply arriving in the box to finish, Ruiz showed an understanding of when to advance and where the space was likely to appear. His second goal was another example of his timing and technical calm. Vitinha’s pass released him into the area, and Ruiz took the opportunity with a composed touch and finish.
Ruiz also offered balance in midfield. While PSG’s forwards stretched Villarreal’s back line, he supported attacks without abandoning his responsibilities when possession changed hands. His ability to connect the midfield with the final third helped the visitors maintain control and prevented Villarreal from building any meaningful momentum.
There were other strong candidates for recognition. Neves scored the opener and contributed to the move for Boly’s late goal, while Doué and Mayulu both took their chances during the first-half surge. Vitinha was also influential in controlling the rhythm of the game and setting up Ruiz’s second strike. However, Ruiz’s two goals and all-round presence made him a fitting choice as the match’s leading individual performer.
PSG’s 6-0 win will be remembered for its extraordinary start, but the performance was about more than a burst of early goals. The French champions maintained their authority throughout the night, added to their advantage after half-time and gave a young academy product a moment to remember. Villarreal were left with a painful defeat, while PSG travelled home with another emphatic result and a clear message to the rest of Europe.
