Paris Saint-Germain continued their impressive winning run with a narrow 1–0 victory over Troyes at the Parc des Princes. Ilya Zabarnyi scored the decisive goal in the 39th minute, earning PSG three important points and claiming Man of the Match honours.

PSG Edge Past Troyes as Ilya Zabarnyi’s First-Half Header Secures Victory
Paris Saint-Germain secured a narrow 1-0 victory over Troyes at the Parc des Princes on Saturday, November 7, but the scoreline did not fully reflect the amount of pressure the hosts applied. Ilya Zabarnyi’s first-half header proved decisive in a match where PSG controlled possession, created several opportunities and were repeatedly denied a more comfortable result by Troyes goalkeeper Hillel Konaté.
The result extended PSG’s winning run to 11 matches in all competitions and strengthened their position at the top of Ligue 1. However, Luis Enrique’s side had to work patiently against a Troyes team that defended in numbers and looked for opportunities to threaten on the counterattack.
PSG started with the intention of taking control, moving the ball through midfield and using the width of the pitch to stretch Troyes’ defensive shape. Warren Zaïre-Emery and Fabián Ruiz supported the circulation and tried to find openings between the lines. Désiré Doué and Mika Godts offered attacking movement from the flanks, with Ferran Torres leading the line.
PSG’s early pressure was built around quick combinations and patient movement rather than hopeful attempts from distance. Doué looked to carry the ball into dangerous areas, while Godts tried to stretch the defence on the opposite side. Troyes were content to keep bodies behind the ball, narrow the central spaces and make the hosts search for a route through. That approach slowed PSG’s progress, even though it could not prevent the corner that eventually produced the goal.
Troyes, meanwhile, set up to make the spaces difficult to find. Their compact approach limited the room available around the penalty area and forced PSG to work for clear chances. Their goalkeeper Konaté was also called upon to keep the hosts at bay.
The breakthrough arrived in the 39th minute. Senny Mayulu delivered a corner into the penalty area, and Zabarnyi rose to meet it with a well-directed header that found the net. The Ukrainian defender had been booked five minutes earlier, but he responded by making the most important contribution of the evening. His goal gave PSG a deserved lead before the interval and rewarded the pressure they had built during the opening period.
PSG had opportunities to add to their advantage before half-time. Torres tested Konaté from a tight angle, but the Troyes goalkeeper made the save. Those missed chances meant the hosts went into the break with only a one-goal cushion despite their attacking control.
Troyes came out with greater purpose after the restart and showed that they were not prepared to accept defeat without a fight. Renaud Ripart had a significant opportunity to bring the visitors level after finding himself through on goal, but he sent his effort wide of Matvey Safonov’s target.
The home side continued to create openings of their own. Warren Zaïre-Emery came close with a header that went narrowly past the post, while Torres was again unable to turn a promising position into a goal. Konaté remained one of Troyes’ strongest performers, producing important saves and keeping his team within reach of an equaliser.
Luis Enrique made changes as the second half progressed, introducing João Neves and Quentin Ndjantou in the 70th minute. PSG later withdrew Mayulu and Ruiz, with Dro Fernández and Lucas Beraldo entering during the closing stages.
Troyes thought they had found a way back into the contest when Lucas Maronnier turned the ball into the net from close range late in the match. However, the effort was ruled out for offside after Safonov had made a save from Dermane Karim’s free-kick.
The statistics underline PSG’s control, although they also show why the match remained uncomfortable until the final whistle. The hosts finished with 74 per cent possession compared with Troyes’ 26 per cent, and recorded 15 total shots against eight. PSG managed seven attempts on target, while Troyes registered three.
The contrast between possession and effectiveness was clear. PSG moved the ball with confidence and spent long spells around the Troyes penalty area, but the final pass or finish was often missing. The visitors, by comparison, had fewer attacking sequences yet managed to produce a handful of dangerous situations. That imbalance made the result more uncertain than the possession figures might suggest.
Yet the figures also reveal that PSG did not turn their territorial advantage into a convincing scoreline. They missed several big chances and were unable to put the result beyond doubt. Troyes, despite having far less possession, created moments that could have changed the outcome, particularly Ripart’s second-half opportunity and the disallowed late goal.
The victory was another significant step in PSG’s league campaign. They moved to 23 points and maintained their place at the summit, while the result also extended a strong run under Enrique. The coach acknowledged afterwards that matches against teams in difficult positions can be challenging, praising Troyes for defending well and noting that his side had created more chances than usual.
For Troyes, the defeat will be frustrating because their defensive effort kept them in the contest until the closing moments. They were unable to make their opportunities count, and their late goal being ruled out summed up an evening in which the visitors came close without getting the reward.
Man of the Match: Ilya Zabarnyi
Ilya Zabarnyi was the standout figure for PSG and a fitting choice for Man of the Match. The defender scored the only goal of the game, delivering the moment that separated the teams after a difficult first half. His 39th-minute header from Mayulu’s corner gave PSG the advantage they needed and ultimately secured all three points.
Beyond the goal, Zabarnyi’s contribution carried added importance because he was operating in a match where Troyes were determined to frustrate the hosts. PSG needed patience and concentration, and the Ukrainian defender provided the decisive action when the opportunity came.
For the Ukrainian international, the goal was another important contribution in a PSG side that has relied on different players to decide matches during its winning run. A centre-back finding the net from a set piece can be especially valuable when opponents defend with a low block and limit clear chances for the forwards. Zabarnyi delivered at precisely the moment his team needed someone to turn pressure into a lead.
There was also a notable response from Zabarnyi after receiving a yellow card in the 34th minute. Rather than allowing the booking to define his evening, he remained involved and delivered the breakthrough just five minutes later. His goal demonstrated the value of defenders contributing at set pieces, particularly when opponents are defending deep and space is limited in open play.
The performance was not simply about finding the net. Zabarnyi helped PSG protect their advantage as Troyes tried to increase the pressure after the interval. His goal, defensive responsibility and influence on the outcome made him the natural choice for the award.
PSG will take encouragement from another win and their continued position at the top of Ligue 1, although Enrique will expect a sharper edge in front of goal in upcoming fixtures. Troyes can take some positives from their resilience, but they leave Paris without a point. Zabarnyi’s header supplied the one moment of quality that mattered most.
