Alverca began with an intention to control possession and push forward, although turning that early control into clear chances proved difficult. The hosts had opportunities to trouble the visitors, with Dawda Camara sending a header narrowly over the crossbar in the 12th minute.

Four minutes later, Alverca came close again after a mistake in Casa Pia’s build-up presented Davy Gui with an opportunity inside the penalty area. The midfielder attempted to finish first time, but his effort went over the goal.

Casa Pia gradually found a way into the contest and began to threaten with more purpose. Their patience was rewarded in the 36th minute when Selvi Clua opened the scoring. The move developed down the right, where Henrique Araújo combined with Jérémy Livolant before delivering a cross into the area. Clua arrived at the right moment and finished first time to put the visitors ahead.

The review by the VAR team briefly paused the celebrations, but the goal was allowed to stand after officials found no infringement in the build-up. It was a deserved reward for Casa Pia’s improved spell, particularly after Alverca had started the match with greater control of the ball.

Alverca went into the interval trailing 1-0, despite having enjoyed periods of possession and created openings of their own. Casa Pia, meanwhile, had shown that they could be dangerous when they moved the ball forward quickly and found space around the penalty area.

Ian Luccas brings Alverca level

The home side returned for the second half with renewed urgency, but Casa Pia initially threatened to extend their advantage. The visitors enjoyed a strong spell after the restart and made Alverca work defensively, forcing the hosts to remain organised while trying to regain control of the match.

Alverca continued to search for an equaliser and their persistence finally paid off in the 66th minute. Chiquinho delivered a corner from the left, and Ian Luccas rose to meet the delivery with a powerful header that found the back of the net. The goal brought the home supporters back into the contest and changed the mood around the stadium.

Alverca’s equaliser gave the hosts fresh belief, and they looked more threatening as the second half progressed. Their attacking play became quicker, with Chiquinho involved in several promising moments. Casa Pia, however, continued to defend with discipline and were prepared to absorb pressure rather than commit too many players forward.

With the score at 1-1, the match opened up as both teams looked for a decisive second goal. Alverca had the greater share of possession and continued to press, while Casa Pia looked for opportunities to exploit spaces left by the home side. The visitors remained competitive and did not allow Alverca to turn their territorial advantage into a clear winning opportunity.

André Vidigal was introduced in the second half and had two promising chances to put Alverca in front, but he was unable to beat Casa Pia goalkeeper Patrick Sequeira. The goalkeeper’s contribution helped the visitors withstand the pressure during a period when Alverca were pushing to complete the comeback.

Casa Pia also had to manage the threat of Alverca’s wide players and the movement around the edge of the box. Their defenders limited the space available for clean attempts, while Sequeira provided reassurance whenever the home side managed to test him. That combination proved decisive in keeping the score level during Alverca’s strongest spell.

Neither team found the breakthrough before the final whistle, and the points were shared following an entertaining contest.

Match statistics show Alverca’s attacking edge

The numbers underline Alverca’s greater share of the ball. According to the match statistics shown after full-time, the hosts recorded 56 per cent possession compared with Casa Pia’s 44 per cent. Alverca also registered 15 total shots, while the visitors managed 11.

Both teams recorded several efforts on target, with Alverca producing five and Casa Pia registering four. The home side had six shots off target against four for the visitors, while blocked attempts stood at four for Alverca and three for Casa Pia. Neither team was awarded a penalty, and both recorded seven attempts from inside the penalty area.

Alverca’s figures suggest that they were more active in possession and attempted to put the Casa Pia defence under pressure. However, the visitors were able to remain compact and make important interventions when required. Their ability to defend the penalty area and rely on Sequeira when Alverca found space proved important in securing an away point.

David Sousa named Man of the Match

David Sousa – Casa Pia AC

Casa Pia defender David Sousa was named Man of the Match by Flashscore, earning recognition for his performance in the visitors’ defensive line. His contribution was especially significant because Alverca had more possession and finished with a higher number of shots.

Sousa helped Casa Pia deal with the pressure that came from Alverca’s attacking spells, particularly after the home side equalised. The defender was required to remain alert as the hosts looked for openings, and his work helped prevent the match from turning into a late victory for Alverca.

While Clua provided the goal that put Casa Pia ahead and Sequeira made important saves, Sousa’s defensive display earned him the individual award. His performance underlined the importance of defensive contributions in a match where the attacking statistics favoured the home side.

Sousa’s award was a reflection of the defensive work required to protect a narrow lead and then preserve a point after the equaliser. Although the goals came from Clua and Luccas, the defender’s contribution helped ensure that Casa Pia did not leave Alverca empty-handed.

What the result means

The draw leaves Alverca with 12 points from their opening 11 league matches, placing them 11th in the standings at the time of the report. Casa Pia move to eight points and sit 15th, with their position leaving them close to the relegation places.

For Alverca, the positive aspect will be their response after falling behind and their ability to create enough pressure to find an equaliser. However, missed opportunities in both halves will be a concern, particularly after they had chances to take control before Casa Pia scored. The home side will also know that possession and shot volume must be converted into more decisive attacking moments if they are to collect more wins.

Casa Pia can take encouragement from earning a point away from home after leading for much of the contest. Their defensive organisation was tested, but they stayed in the game and had opportunities of their own. The visitors will nevertheless be aware that their league position leaves little room for dropped points as the campaign continues.

Alverca will now turn their attention to their next league fixture against Académico de Viseu, while Casa Pia will look to build on this away result and improve their position in the weeks ahead.

The 1-1 scoreline may not have delivered the victory either team wanted, but it reflected a closely fought match in which Alverca’s attacking pressure was matched by Casa Pia’s defensive resilience. Both clubs will take lessons from the encounter as they prepare for the next stage of their league campaigns.
