West Bromwich Albion Stun West Ham 3-1 as Jimmy-Jay Morgan Leads Brilliant Away Victory
West Bromwich Albion produced an impressive away performance to beat West Ham United 3-1 at the London Stadium, with Felix Horn Myhre, Jimmy-Jay Morgan and Callum Styles finding the net for the visitors.

West Bromwich Albion produced a statement performance at the London Stadium on Saturday, beating West Ham United 3-1 to strengthen their promotion push and leave the hosts facing more questions about their consistency in the Championship.
The Baggies recovered from conceding an equaliser before half-time to regain control shortly after the restart, with Jimmy-Jay Morgan putting them back in front before Callum Styles added a third in the second half. Felix Horn Myhre had earlier opened the scoring, while Jarrod Bowen briefly brought West Ham level.
For West Brom, the victory was built on efficiency, discipline and the ability to punish openings when they appeared. West Ham enjoyed 55 percent possession and registered 14 shots to the visitors’ 12, but the numbers did not translate into enough clear opportunities. Albion were far more ruthless when the decisive moments arrived.
West Ham started with the intention of putting pressure on their opponents early. The home side moved the ball forward and looked for space around the West Brom defence, but the visitors were comfortable enough in their shape and waited for chances to attack quickly.
That approach paid off in the 20th minute. Felix Horn Myhre put West Brom ahead after the visitors found a way through the West Ham defence. Jimmy-Jay Morgan was involved in the move, and Myhre finished to give the Baggies the advantage.
The goal forced West Ham to respond, and they eventually found their equaliser nine minutes later. Jarrod Bowen struck in the 29th minute, restoring parity and giving the home supporters something to celebrate after a difficult opening period.
Bowen’s goal changed the mood around the stadium, but it did not completely alter the pattern of the contest. West Brom continued to look dangerous when they moved forward, while West Ham struggled to turn their possession into sustained pressure in the final third.
West Brom then delivered the moment that ultimately shifted the game in their favour. Just three minutes into the second half, Morgan found the net to put Albion 2-1 ahead. The forward had already played an important role in the opening goal, and his strike rewarded his movement and willingness to attack the spaces around the West Ham defence.
West Ham had to chase the game again, but the second goal gave West Brom greater freedom. The visitors could defend their lead while still threatening on the counter, forcing the hosts to take more risks.
The Hammers continued to create attempts, finishing the match with 14 shots, but only five were on target. West Brom recorded 12 attempts, with six testing the goalkeeper. Those figures highlighted the difference between possession and productivity. West Ham saw more of the ball, yet Albion produced the sharper attacking moments.
The decisive third goal arrived in the 72nd minute through Callum Styles. His strike extended West Brom’s advantage to 3-1 and placed the result beyond the reach of a West Ham side that had struggled to find a response after Morgan’s goal.
West Ham attempted to push forward during the closing stages, but West Brom remained organised. The visitors did not need to dominate possession to control the situation. Their two-goal cushion allowed them to manage the tempo and frustrate the hosts as the final whistle approached.
For West Ham manager Nuno Espírito Santo, the defeat was another setback at home. The Hammers were beaten 3-1 after previously suffering another home loss, adding to concerns surrounding their promotion campaign. The club now needs a response in its upcoming away fixtures if it is to maintain momentum in the race to return to the Premier League.
The defeat also showed why West Ham cannot afford to rely on possession alone. Having the ball for longer periods can create territorial control, but it has to be matched by quality in the final third. Against West Brom, the hosts were unable to make their advantage in possession count when the most important moments arrived.
West Brom, meanwhile, can take enormous confidence from the result. Winning away against a side with Premier League experience is valuable, but the manner of the victory makes it even more significant. Albion remained composed after West Ham equalised and responded immediately after the interval.
Man of the Match: Jimmy-Jay Morgan
Jimmy-Jay Morgan was the standout performer for West Brom and deserved the Man of the Match recognition after playing a direct role in two of the three goals. The forward provided the assist for Myhre’s opener before scoring the second goal himself, giving him a goal and an assist in a hugely influential display.
Morgan’s contribution was important because his work affected the game at both ends of West Brom’s attacking story. His involvement in the opening goal helped establish the visitors’ early advantage, while his finish shortly after half-time restored that lead at a moment when West Ham were hoping to build on their equaliser.
The forward’s movement also caused problems for the home defence. Rather than remaining static, he looked to occupy useful spaces and make himself available when West Brom moved the ball into dangerous areas. That gave his teammates another attacking option and helped the visitors maintain a threat even when West Ham had more possession.
Morgan’s goal in the 48th minute was especially valuable because of its timing. Scoring so early in the second half immediately changed the balance of the contest. West Ham were forced to attack again, while West Brom could settle into a more controlled approach.
Match data providers rated Morgan among the leading players on the pitch, with one recording an 8.5 rating and another naming him Player of the Match. His overall influence was greater than simply scoring the second goal because he helped create the opening goal as well.
While Myhre and Styles also played major roles, Morgan’s combination of creativity and finishing made him the natural choice for the award. He was involved in the moments that established West Brom’s lead, restored it and ultimately paved the way for a convincing away victory.
What the Result Means
The 3-1 victory gives West Brom an important boost as they continue their Championship campaign. It was a performance that showed they can remain composed under pressure, exploit defensive mistakes and punish opponents without needing to dominate the ball.
For West Ham, the result is a reminder that their promotion ambitions will require greater consistency. They cannot afford to allow opponents to score first repeatedly or depend on individual moments to rescue difficult matches.
Bowen’s goal offered a temporary response, but the Hammers needed more after the break. Once Morgan restored West Brom’s lead, West Ham were unable to find the attacking solution required to get back into the contest.
The final score therefore reflected more than a poor result for the hosts. It demonstrated the difference between controlling possession and controlling a football match. West Ham had the ball for longer, but West Brom controlled the decisive moments.
Albion left London with three valuable points, three goals and plenty of confidence, while West Ham were left to reflect on another disappointing afternoon. With the Championship promotion race continuing to develop, both clubs will know that performances like this can have a major impact on where they finish when the season reaches its decisive stages.
