PSV Eindhoven 7-0 Willem II: Champions Run Riot as Sven Mijnans Leads Seven-Goal Masterclass
PSV Eindhoven delivered a ruthless attacking display at the Philips Stadion, defeating Willem II 7-0 as Sven Mijnans starred with a goal and an assist in a dominant Eredivisie performance.

PSV Eindhoven produced one of their most emphatic Eredivisie performances of the season on Saturday night, crushing Willem II 7-0 at the Philips Stadion in a result that strengthened their position in the title race and sent a clear warning to the teams above them.
Peter Bosz’s side controlled the contest from the opening stages, dominated possession and eventually overwhelmed a Willem II team that struggled to cope with PSV’s movement, passing and attacking pressure. The champions finished with 70 percent possession, 20 shots and nine efforts on target, while Willem II managed only four attempts, with just one finding the target.
The result also helped PSV take advantage of Feyenoord dropping points against Fortuna Sittard, reducing the gap to the league leaders to two points. With the campaign moving deeper into the season, such a commanding home victory could prove important in a title race that is beginning to take shape.
PSV started the night with purpose, although Willem II initially managed to keep the home side from creating clear openings. The visitors defended in numbers and attempted to frustrate PSV’s attackers, but the pressure eventually told.
The breakthrough arrived in the 20th minute through Mauro Júnior. Guus Til delivered the ball into a dangerous area, and Willem II failed to deal with it properly. The loose ball fell kindly for Mauro, who made no mistake from close range to give PSV the lead.
The goal settled some of the early tension and allowed PSV to play with greater confidence. Willem II found it increasingly difficult to escape their own half, while PSV continued to circulate the ball and look for gaps.
Ivan Perišić thought he had helped double the advantage earlier, but the effort was ruled out for offside. Instead, PSV had to wait until the closing moments of the first half to get their second goal.
Guus Til supplied it in the 44th minute, finishing brilliantly to make it 2-0. The midfielder has been in excellent scoring form in recent league matches, and his goal gave PSV a comfortable advantage at the interval. PSV’s official match centre noted that Til had scored five goals across his previous five league matches.
Willem II had offered very little going forward during the first half, and the second period quickly became even more difficult for the visitors. PSV came out with greater attacking intent and immediately began turning their control into goals.
Sven Mijnans made it 3-0 in the 50th minute with a superb volley. Sergiño Dest provided the delivery, and Mijnans met it cleanly before sending the ball into the net.
Just three minutes later, Mijnans was involved again. This time, he provided the cross for Ruben van Bommel, who rose above the Willem II defence and headed PSV’s fourth goal into the net.
At 4-0, the contest was effectively decided, but PSV showed no desire to slow down. Bosz used his bench as the game progressed, giving players an opportunity to contribute while maintaining the intensity that had made the difference.
Ricardo Pepi’s return from injury was another positive moment for PSV. The American forward came off the bench in the 60th minute and needed only a short time to make an impact.
Pepi scored in the 73rd minute, heading home from a corner to make it 5-0. His return provided another boost for Bosz, especially with PSV entering a demanding period of the campaign.
Kodai Sano added the sixth goal four minutes later. The midfielder had been involved in PSV’s attacking play throughout the match and deserved his reward for a lively performance.
The final goal arrived in the 81st minute and carried a special story of its own. Shuryjano Cornecion, a product of the PSV Academy, came off the bench and scored his first goal for the first team. His finish completed a remarkable evening for the hosts and gave the home supporters another moment to celebrate.
The seven goals were shared among seven different PSV players: Mauro Júnior, Guus Til, Sven Mijnans, Ruben van Bommel, Ricardo Pepi, Kodai Sano and Cornecion. That variety was perhaps the strongest indication of PSV’s attacking depth. They did not depend on one individual to produce the victory; instead, different players stepped forward at different moments.
PSV’s statistical dominance also told the story. They had 70 percent possession compared with Willem II’s 30 percent, while their 20 total shots were five times the visitors’ four. Nine of PSV’s efforts were on target, against only one from Willem II. They also won 10 corners to Willem II’s one and completed their passing with much greater efficiency.
For Willem II, the night represented another painful setback. The visitors were unable to match PSV’s tempo and struggled to create sustained pressure of their own. Their defensive shape held for periods in the opening half, but once PSV scored the second goal, the resistance began to disappear.
The defeat also leaves Willem II in a difficult position near the bottom of the Eredivisie. The visitors entered the match at the foot of the table, and the gulf in confidence and quality between the two sides was obvious at the final whistle.
For PSV, however, the victory was about more than seven goals. It demonstrated their ability to break down a compact opponent, maintain concentration after taking a lead and keep attacking even after the result was beyond doubt. It also allowed several members of the squad to make their mark, including Pepi and Cornecion.
Man of the Match: Sven Mijnans
Sven Mijnans was the standout performer in an evening filled with excellent individual displays. The midfielder scored one of PSV’s seven goals and also supplied the assist for Ruben van Bommel’s strike, making him directly responsible for two of the goals.
His performance was not limited to those contributions. Mijnans played with energy and intelligence in midfield, helped PSV maintain their attacking rhythm and consistently positioned himself in dangerous areas. His ability to arrive at the right moment was rewarded when he connected with Dest’s cross for the third goal.
The finish itself demonstrated his quality. Rather than taking an extra touch, Mijnans attacked the delivery and struck the ball cleanly, producing a volley that gave the goalkeeper little chance.
His contribution to the fourth goal was equally important. After scoring himself, Mijnans turned provider, delivering the cross that allowed Van Bommel to head home. That sequence captured the all-round nature of his display: he was not only finishing attacks but also helping create them.
Mijnans also benefited from PSV’s collective dominance. With the team controlling possession and Willem II struggling to close spaces, he was able to find pockets between the visitors’ midfield and defence. His movement helped keep Willem II occupied and opened opportunities for teammates around him.
His influence was reflected in player ratings after the match, with FootballCritic giving him a 9.3 rating, the highest among the players listed. That assessment matches the impact he had on the scoreline and the overall flow of the contest.
The victory gives Bosz and his players plenty of encouragement as the title battle continues. PSV combined control, creativity and ruthlessness to dismantle Willem II, while the return of Pepi and the first senior goal for Cornecion added further positives.
A 7-0 victory is difficult to improve upon, but perhaps the most encouraging aspect for PSV was how many players contributed. The champions showed that their attacking threat can come from several areas, making them an even more dangerous opponent as the season progresses.
With the gap to Feyenoord reduced to two points, PSV will now look to carry this momentum into their next fixtures. If they can maintain the level of intensity and attacking variety displayed against Willem II, they will remain firmly involved in the fight for another Eredivisie title.
