Alphadjo Cissé Hat-Trick Fires AC Milan to 4-0 Europa League Victory Over Salzburg

AC Milan produced a commanding performance in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night, defeating RB Salzburg 4-0 at the Red Bull Arena in Austria as teenager Alphadjo Cissé stole the spotlight with a remarkable hat-trick.

The Italian side entered the second round of the competition looking to respond after suffering defeat to Benfica in their opening match. They delivered exactly the kind of reaction manager Ruben Amorim would have wanted, controlling the contest and turning a difficult away trip into a convincing victory.

Cissé was at the centre of everything for Milan, scoring three times before Gonçalo Ramos completed the rout in the second half. His performance made him the first Milan player to score a hat-trick in a European competition since Filippo Inzaghi in 2002.

Cissé puts Milan ahead

Milan began the match with plenty of attacking intent, pressing Salzburg high and looking to take advantage of spaces behind the Austrian side’s defence.

Their pressure paid off in the 15th minute when Cissé opened the scoring.

Omari Hutchinson created the opportunity from the right, delivering a cross that found Cissé in a dangerous position. The young forward made no mistake, rising to head the ball beyond the Salzburg goalkeeper and give Milan an early advantage.

The goal gave Milan greater confidence and forced Salzburg to take more risks in search of an equaliser.

Instead, Milan continued to look dangerous whenever they moved forward.

Salzburg came close to creating opportunities of their own, but Milan’s defensive organisation prevented the hosts from producing a meaningful response. Mike Maignan also remained alert whenever Salzburg attempted to exploit space behind the Rossoneri defence.

Cissé doubles the advantage

Milan’s second goal arrived in the 32nd minute, and once again Cissé was responsible.

Adrien Rabiot played an excellent ball towards the left side, where Davide Bartesaghi had advanced into a dangerous position. Bartesaghi delivered a cut-back into the area and Cissé reacted quickly to finish from close range.

The goal gave Milan a 2-0 lead before half-time and left Salzburg facing a difficult task after the break.

For Cissé, however, his best moment was still to come.

The 19-year-old had already demonstrated his finishing ability with both his head and his feet, but he completed his hat-trick early in the second half.

Historic hat-trick completed

Cissé scored his third goal in the 49th minute after Milan once again found space around the Salzburg defence.

Rabiot played an important role in the move, providing the ball that allowed Cissé to complete his treble.

The goal sparked celebrations among the Milan players and supporters and effectively ended Salzburg’s hopes of getting back into the match.

Cissé had scored three goals before the 50-minute mark, producing a performance that immediately placed him among the major talking points of the Europa League’s second matchday.

His hat-trick was also Milan’s first in European competition since Inzaghi achieved the feat more than two decades ago.

Manager Ruben Amorim later praised the teenager for taking advantage of the opportunities he has been given, while also pointing out that there is still room for the young forward to improve.

Ramos adds a fourth

With Milan already three goals ahead, Salzburg needed something extraordinary to change the direction of the match.

Instead, it was Milan who continued to threaten.

Gonçalo Ramos, introduced from the bench alongside Christian Pulisic and Luka Modrić, eventually added Milan’s fourth goal in the 72nd minute.

Salzburg attempted to play out from the back, but a mistake presented Milan with an opportunity. Ardon Jashari was involved in the move before Ramos found himself in a perfect position to finish from close range.

The Portuguese forward made no mistake, giving Milan a 4-0 advantage and putting the result beyond any doubt.

Late red card takes some shine off victory

The night was not completely perfect for Milan.

With the match already decided, Filippo Terracciano was shown a straight red card in the 83rd minute after bringing down Salzburg’s Schmid, who had managed to get goal-side of the defender.

The dismissal meant Milan finished the game with 10 players.

However, Salzburg were unable to take advantage of their numerical superiority during the closing stages, with Milan comfortably protecting their four-goal lead until the final whistle.

The result marked Milan’s first Europa League victory of the campaign after their opening defeat to Benfica.

A major response from Milan

The importance of the victory goes beyond the scoreline.

After losing their opening European fixture, Milan needed a positive response to avoid putting themselves under unnecessary pressure early in the competition.

They produced one of their strongest performances of the campaign, scoring four goals away from home while keeping a clean sheet.

The victory also showed the depth available to Amorim. While Cissé was undoubtedly the star, players such as Rabiot, Bartesaghi and Hutchinson played important roles in creating opportunities, while Ramos came off the bench to score.

Milan’s ability to maintain their intensity even after taking a three-goal lead was another positive aspect of the performance.

Salzburg, meanwhile, struggled to deal with Milan’s attacking movement and high pressure. The Austrian side had entered the match with a strong record under manager Danny Röhl, but Milan became the first team to defeat them during his 16-game run in charge.

Cissé emerges as Milan’s biggest talking point

Although Milan will be pleased with the three points, much of the attention will understandably remain on Cissé.

The teenager demonstrated composure, movement and versatility in front of goal, scoring with his head and both feet during his historic night.

His three goals also showed how quickly a young player can become an important part of a team’s European campaign when given an opportunity.

For Milan, the biggest challenge now will be maintaining the momentum created by the victory.

The Rossoneri have made their intentions clear with a four-goal performance in Austria. More importantly, they have recovered from their disappointing opening result and put themselves back in a stronger position in the Europa League.

Cissé’s hat-trick will undoubtedly dominate the headlines, but the performance was ultimately a collective effort.

Milan defended well, created numerous chances, controlled large periods of the match and punished Salzburg’s mistakes.

After a difficult start to their European campaign, the Rossoneri have responded emphatically.

Final score: RB Salzburg 0-4 AC Milan.

Cissé scored three times, while Ramos added the fourth to give Milan a memorable away victory and their first Europa League points of the campaign.
