Al-Nassr Beat Al-Faisaly 3-1 to Keep Saudi Pro League Title Push on Track
Al-Nassr secured an important 3-1 victory over Al-Faisaly on Friday, with Abdullah Al-Hamdan, Cristiano Ronaldo and Ângelo Gabriel Borges finding the net to keep the Riyadh side firmly in the Saudi Pro League title race.

Al-Nassr continued their strong start to the 2026/27 Saudi Pro League season with a 3-1 victory over Al-Faisaly at Al-Majma’ah Sports City Stadium on Friday.
The result gave Al-Nassr another valuable three points in their pursuit of the league title, taking their tally to 25 points after 11 matches. The victory also maintained their position among the leading sides in the division, with the club continuing to apply pressure at the top of the table.
Al-Faisaly, meanwhile, were left to reflect on another difficult result despite producing a spirited second-half response. Theo Bongonda’s goal briefly gave the home side hope, but Al-Nassr showed their quality when it mattered most and eventually restored their two-goal advantage.
Al-Hamdan gives Al-Nassr early advantage
Al-Nassr needed only four minutes to break the deadlock.
Abdullah Al-Hamdan produced a composed finish to put the visitors ahead, giving Ange Postecoglou’s side the perfect start. The Saudi forward’s early goal immediately put Al-Faisaly on the back foot and allowed Al-Nassr to control the opening stages of the contest.
The home side tried to respond, but Al-Nassr remained dangerous whenever they moved forward. The visitors went into the interval with their narrow advantage intact, although Al-Faisaly had done enough to suggest the contest was not over.
Ronaldo doubles the lead
Al-Nassr returned from the break with renewed attacking intent and doubled their advantage in the 49th minute.
Cristiano Ronaldo rose to meet a cross from João Félix and headed the ball into the net, giving Al-Nassr a 2-0 lead. The goal was another significant milestone for the Portuguese superstar, taking his career tally to 982 goals.
Ronaldo thought he had scored again shortly afterwards, but the effort was ruled out for offside following a VAR review.
Despite losing the second goal, Al-Faisaly refused to disappear from the contest. Their persistence eventually paid off when Theo Bongonda pulled one back in the 66th minute.
Bongonda, who had come on in the second half, reacted well to reduce the deficit to 2-1 and suddenly gave the hosts belief that they could complete a comeback.
Ângelo ends Al-Faisaly’s hopes
Al-Nassr responded strongly after conceding.
Just 13 minutes after Bongonda’s goal, Ângelo Gabriel Borges restored the visitors’ two-goal cushion.
The Brazilian, who had entered the game in the 67th minute, finished from inside the box in the 79th minute after being set up by Al-Hamdan. His goal effectively ended Al-Faisaly’s hopes of earning anything from the match.
The timing of the goal was particularly important because Al-Faisaly had begun to push forward with greater confidence after Bongonda’s strike. Ângelo’s finish stopped that momentum and allowed Al-Nassr to see out the remaining minutes without serious danger.
The hosts continued to search for another goal late in the game. Alexandre Mendy came close with a header that struck the bar, while another attempt was saved by Al-Nassr goalkeeper Bento. However, Al-Faisaly could not find a second goal before the final whistle.
Al-Nassr’s control reflected in the statistics
The final score suggested a comfortable victory, although the match was more competitive than the 3-1 result might indicate.
Al-Faisaly recorded 12 shots compared with Al-Nassr’s 10 and also had slightly more possession according to the match statistics. However, Al-Nassr were more effective when it came to converting important moments into goals.
The visitors also created more touches inside the opposition penalty area, showing their ability to threaten Al-Faisaly’s defence despite not dominating possession throughout the contest.
That efficiency ultimately proved decisive. Al-Hamdan’s early strike, Ronaldo’s second-half goal and Ângelo’s late finish ensured that Bongonda’s effort was only a temporary setback.
Man of the Match: Cristiano Ronaldo
Cristiano Ronaldo was named the Man of the Match after another influential performance for Al-Nassr.
The Portuguese forward scored his side’s second goal, constantly posed a threat in attack and helped stretch the Al-Faisaly defence throughout the contest. His 49th-minute header gave Al-Nassr crucial breathing room at a time when the hosts were attempting to remain within touching distance.
Ronaldo’s performance was recognised with the official Man of the Match award. However, in a notable gesture after the final whistle, he reportedly declined to keep the prize and handed it to Al-Hamdan instead.
The gesture highlighted the contribution of the Saudi forward, who opened the scoring and later provided the assist for Ângelo’s decisive third goal. Al-Hamdan also created the opportunity for another Ronaldo finish that was later ruled out for offside.
Al-Nassr show their depth
Another encouraging aspect of the victory was Al-Nassr’s ability to respond whenever Al-Faisaly threatened to change the direction of the match. The visitors did not panic after Bongonda reduced the deficit, instead using their attacking depth to regain control.
The introduction of Ângelo proved particularly important. The Brazilian made an immediate impact after coming off the bench, finding space inside the penalty area and finishing clinically to restore Al-Nassr’s two-goal advantage. His contribution underlined the strength available to the visitors beyond their starting XI.
Al-Hamdan also deserves credit for his overall contribution. His early goal settled Al-Nassr’s nerves, while his assist for Ângelo’s strike provided the final decisive moment of the evening. His performance offered another positive takeaway for a side that continues to rely on a mixture of experienced stars and younger attacking players.
For Al-Nassr, the ability to win even when they are not completely dominant could prove important as the season progresses.
Al-Nassr maintain title ambitions
The victory represents another positive step for Al-Nassr as they continue their push for the Saudi Pro League title.
With 25 points from 11 matches, the Riyadh club remain firmly involved in the battle for first place. The win also extended their recent run of positive results and provided another reminder of the attacking options available to Postecoglou.
For Al-Faisaly, the defeat leaves them with plenty to address. They showed character after falling two goals behind and Bongonda’s strike briefly raised hopes of a comeback, but Al-Nassr’s quality eventually proved too much.
Al-Nassr will now turn their attention to the next challenge in their campaign, knowing that consistency will be crucial if they are to stay ahead in an increasingly competitive title race.
