Roma Thrash Udinese 5-2 in Serie A as Bryan Cristante Stars in Five-Goal Rout
AS Roma delivered a ruthless attacking display at the Bluenergy Stadium, beating Udinese 5-2 after scoring four times in a dominant first half, with Bryan Cristante producing a standout performance.

AS Roma produced one of their most convincing performances of the Serie A season on Saturday night, overwhelming Udinese 5-2 at the Bluenergy Stadium after turning the first half into a one-sided contest.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side arrived with confidence and left with another statement result, scoring four times before the interval and surviving a spirited Udinese response after the break. The victory also kept Roma firmly among the teams putting pressure on the leading pack, while their attacking form continued to stand out.
The final score was emphatic, but the way Roma established control so quickly was even more impressive. They were sharper in possession, more decisive around the penalty area and far more clinical when opportunities appeared.
Roma wasted little time making their intentions clear. Bryan Cristante opened the scoring in the 10th minute, rising to meet Wesley’s delivery and sending his header beyond Maduka Okoye. The goal rewarded Roma’s bright start and immediately placed Udinese under pressure.
The visitors continued to attack with purpose. Matías Soulé and Donyell Malen both came close to adding another goal before Roma eventually doubled their advantage through Rodrigo Mora in the 31st minute.
Mora’s finish changed the game even further. Udinese were already struggling to contain Roma’s movement between the lines, and the second goal forced the home side to take more risks. Roma punished those spaces almost immediately.
Just two minutes after Mora’s goal, Malen made it 3-0. The Dutch forward had already been a constant threat and finally found the finish his performance deserved. Roma were now playing with freedom, while Udinese were chasing a game that was rapidly slipping away.
The fourth goal arrived in the 37th minute. Evan Ndicka rose to meet a corner from Soulé and headed home, completing a remarkable first-half spell for the visitors.
By halftime, Roma had built a 4-0 lead, leaving Udinese with an enormous task. The hosts had not been completely without attacking moments, but they lacked the efficiency required to compete with a Roma side that was taking almost every major opportunity.
The second half brought a different response from Udinese. Rather than allowing the game to disappear quietly, the home team came out with greater urgency and began to test Roma’s defensive structure.
Nicolò Zaniolo pulled one back in the 50th minute, giving Udinese something to believe in. The goal also changed the atmosphere inside the stadium, as Roma suddenly had to deal with a more aggressive opponent.
Udinese continued to push and were rewarded again in the 78th minute when Matteo Palma scored to reduce the deficit to 4-2. At that point, what had looked like a routine victory for Roma briefly carried an element of uncertainty.
Roma, however, did not allow the comeback to become reality. Gasperini used his bench and managed his players with the upcoming schedule in mind, while the visitors continued to look for opportunities on the counter.
The decisive moment came in stoppage time. Daniele Ghilardi scored his first Serie A goal in the 90+2nd minute, restoring Roma’s three-goal advantage and ending any remaining hope of an extraordinary Udinese comeback.
The 5-2 scoreline reflected Roma’s superiority, particularly in the quality of the chances they created. The match statistics showed Udinese with 46 percent possession and Roma with 54 percent. Udinese actually registered 15 total shots compared with Roma’s 14, but Roma produced nine shots on target to Udinese’s seven and created seven big chances compared with three for the hosts.
That difference in efficiency proved crucial. Roma did not need to dominate every statistical category because they were consistently more dangerous when they reached the final third.
Another important feature of the match was Roma’s passing control. They completed 532 passes compared with Udinese’s 448, helping them dictate the tempo during the periods when the home side attempted to regain momentum.
Roma’s first-half performance was particularly impressive. Four goals in 37 minutes effectively decided the contest before the interval, and the visitors could have scored even more after Soulé and Malen struck the woodwork.
For Udinese, the second-half reaction will offer some encouragement despite the heavy defeat. Zaniolo and Palma showed character by finding the net, while the home side continued to attack until the final whistle. Their problem was that the damage created during the opening 45 minutes was simply too large to repair.
For Roma, the victory was another demonstration of their attacking potential under Gasperini. The team now has several players capable of contributing in front of goal, which makes it increasingly difficult for opponents to focus their defensive attention on one individual.
Bryan Cristante Shines as Man of the Match
Bryan Cristante was the standout player and deservedly took the Man of the Match award after producing a complete performance in midfield.
Cristante was directly involved in two of Roma’s goals, scoring the opener and assisting the move that led to Mora’s second. His influence was not limited to those attacking contributions, however. He also helped Roma maintain control in midfield and provided the balance needed for the more attack-minded players around him.
His opening goal was an excellent example of his timing. Rather than simply remaining in a deeper position, Cristante attacked the space at the right moment and connected cleanly with Wesley’s cross. The header gave Roma an early advantage and set the tone for everything that followed.
His contribution to the second goal was equally important. Cristante’s passing helped Roma progress through Udinese’s defensive shape before Mora finished the move. That combination of vision, composure and movement made him one of the most influential players on the pitch.
Sofascore gave Cristante a 9.5 rating, the highest mark among the players involved, while other match-rating sources also named him the game’s best performer. Sky Sport likewise identified him as Roma’s best player after his goal and assist.
Cristante also worked hard without the ball, contributing defensively and helping Roma regain control when Udinese began to increase the pressure in the second half. His performance was therefore not simply about the numbers on the scoresheet; it was about his overall influence on the match.
Matías Soulé also deserves recognition for his contribution. The Argentine played a major role in Roma’s attacking display, providing assists and repeatedly creating problems for the Udinese defence. Malen was another important figure, scoring Roma’s third goal and remaining a threat throughout his time on the pitch.
Rodrigo Mora and Ndicka added the other first-half goals, while Ghilardi’s late strike completed the scoring and gave the defender a memorable moment.
For Udinese, Zaniolo and Palma were among the few bright spots. Their goals demonstrated that the hosts were not prepared to surrender after the disastrous opening half, but Roma’s early advantage proved too great.
Ultimately, this was a match defined by Roma’s ruthless first-half finishing and their ability to withstand Udinese’s second-half reaction. The visitors showed attacking quality, composure and enough defensive resilience to leave with all three points.
The 5-2 victory will therefore be remembered not only for the scoreline but also for the manner in which Roma seized control. With Cristante leading the performance, Gasperini’s team delivered another strong attacking statement and showed why they remain a serious force in the Serie A title race.
