Atalanta 4-4 Frosinone: Krstović Shines as Eight-Goal Thriller Ends in Draw
Atalanta and Frosinone played out a remarkable 4-4 draw in Serie A, with Nikola Krstović scoring twice and providing an assist as both sides exchanged the lead in an eight-goal thriller.

Atalanta were forced to settle for a point after surrendering the lead twice in a dramatic 4-4 draw against Frosinone at the New Balance Arena on Sunday.
The Serie A encounter produced eight goals, two braces and several momentum swings as neither side was able to establish control for long. Atalanta led 3-2 at half-time and restored their advantage shortly after the interval, but Frosinone refused to go away and eventually found an 82nd-minute equaliser through Aleksa Terzić.
For Atalanta, the result will feel like two points dropped after they had twice moved into a winning position. Frosinone, meanwhile, will leave Bergamo encouraged by the character they showed to recover from difficult moments.
The visitors made the perfect start, taking the lead inside the opening minute after Romano Schmid capitalised on an error from Éderson. The Austrian remained composed in front of goal and gave Frosinone an early advantage before Atalanta had settled into the contest.
Atalanta responded strongly, with Krstović restoring parity in the 14th minute. Charles De Ketelaere provided the opening for the striker, who showed excellent composure to finish and bring the hosts back into the match.
Frosinone immediately demonstrated that they were not prepared to sit back. Schmid struck again in the 17th minute to complete his brace and put the visitors 2-1 ahead. Farès Ghedjemis played an important role in the move, providing the assist for Schmid’s second goal.
The pace of the match remained extremely high, with both teams creating opportunities and attacking spaces behind the opposing defence.
Atalanta eventually found another route back into the contest when they were awarded a penalty. Éderson stepped up from the spot in the 33rd minute and made no mistake, levelling the score at 2-2.
The Brazilian’s penalty was particularly significant because his earlier mistake had contributed to Frosinone’s opening goal. He responded in the best possible way by taking responsibility and converting from twelve yards.
With the first half approaching its conclusion, Atalanta completed the turnaround. Krstović scored his second goal of the afternoon in the 45th minute, finishing a move involving Davide Zappacosta to send the hosts into the interval with a 3-2 lead.
It was a crucial moment for Atalanta, who had gone from trailing twice to holding an advantage before half-time.
However, Frosinone responded immediately after the restart.
Just three minutes into the second half, Giacomo Calò produced a composed finish to make it 3-3. Ghedjemis once again provided the assist, underlining his influence on Frosinone’s attacking play.
Atalanta did not allow the equaliser to knock them off their stride. They quickly regained the lead in the 50th minute when Eljif Elmas made it 4-3.
Krstović was again involved, providing the assist for Elmas after Atalanta moved the ball into a dangerous position. The goal appeared to put the hosts back in control, but the match was far from over.
Frosinone continued to push forward in search of another equaliser, while Atalanta struggled to produce the decisive fifth goal that would have ended the contest.
The visitors eventually received their reward in the 82nd minute.
Terzić found the back of the net after another dangerous attacking move involving Ghedjemis, bringing the score to 4-4. Atalanta had little time to respond decisively, and Frosinone even threatened to snatch all three points during the closing stages.
The statistics reflected just how evenly contested the match was. Atalanta had 46 percent possession compared with Frosinone’s 54 percent, while the visitors registered 24 total shots to Atalanta’s 22. The hosts had nine shots on target, while Frosinone managed 10.
Atalanta also recorded 19 attempts from inside the box, compared with 15 for Frosinone. Both teams produced seven blocked shots for Atalanta and eight for Frosinone, highlighting the attacking nature of the contest.
The draw was also significant in the context of Frosinone’s impressive start to the campaign. After eight rounds, the visitors moved to 14 points and remained level with Juventus in sixth place, while Atalanta stayed in the lower half of the standings.
Krstović Named Man of the Match
While several players stood out, Nikola Krstović was the clear standout performer for Atalanta and was named Man of the Match.
The striker finished the game with two goals and an assist, playing a direct role in three of Atalanta’s four goals. His first goal came in the 14th minute when he reacted brilliantly to De Ketelaere’s pass before producing a precise finish.
His second arrived just before half-time and gave Atalanta a valuable 3-2 advantage going into the break.
Krstović was not finished there. After Atalanta regained the lead in the second half, he supplied the assist for Elmas to score the team’s fourth goal.
His overall performance went beyond the goals. Krstović remained heavily involved in Atalanta’s attacking play, linked well with his teammates and constantly gave the Frosinone defence problems. Sofascore awarded him a 9.0 rating, while another match-rating source gave him 9.5. He was also credited with two big chances created and strong involvement in duels during his 77 minutes on the pitch.
Frosinone’s Schmid also deserves considerable credit after scoring twice, while Ghedjemis was influential throughout the game and finished with three assists. Terzić’s late equaliser ultimately ensured their efforts were rewarded with a point.
For Atalanta, however, the final result leaves a feeling of frustration. They scored four times, led 3-2 at the break and moved ahead again at 4-3, yet still could not close out the game.
The 4-4 scoreline perfectly captured the nature of an extraordinary afternoon in Bergamo. Both sides attacked with purpose, defensive mistakes were punished and neither team was willing to accept defeat.
For Krstović, it was an outstanding individual display that confirmed his importance to Atalanta’s attack. For Frosinone, the comeback showed why they remain a difficult opponent.
The result also highlighted the attacking quality on display, with both sides showing enough creativity to punish defensive lapses throughout the contest.
In the end, neither team could claim victory, but both contributed to one of the most entertaining matches of the Serie A weekend.
