PSG Beat Barcelona 4-2 in Champions League Classic

Paris Saint-Germain produced one of their biggest performances of the season on Tuesday night as they defeated Barcelona 4-2 in a thrilling UEFA Champions League encounter at the Parc des Princes.

The reigning European champions survived two comebacks from Barcelona before finding another gear in the closing stages, with Vitinha and Fabián Ruiz scoring within five minutes of each other to settle a contest that had been level at 2-2.

The victory also ended Barcelona’s perfect start to the 2026/27 campaign, with Hansi Flick’s side arriving in Paris having won every match they had played this season. PSG, however, showed why they remain one of the leading contenders for another European title.

The match was played at an incredible tempo from the opening whistle, with both teams committing players forward and creating opportunities.

PSG came close to taking the lead after only two minutes when Khvicha Kvaratskhelia struck the post. Barcelona responded by creating opportunities of their own, with Pedri, Dani Olmo and Raphinha all involved in promising attacks.

Barcelona’s early pressure was interrupted when Olmo was forced off with an injury, while PSG continued to threaten whenever they recovered possession.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 38th minute.

Désiré Doué put PSG ahead with an excellent strike from outside the penalty area after Barcelona failed to deal with the situation properly. The young French forward showed impressive composure to fire beyond goalkeeper Joan García and give the hosts a 1-0 advantage.

Barcelona had opportunities to respond before half-time, but PSG managed to protect their lead and went into the interval ahead.

The second half completely changed the momentum of the contest.

Barcelona came out with greater attacking intent and eventually found their equaliser in the 55th minute. Xavi Espart produced an impressive finish after combining with Fermín López, bringing the visitors level at 1-1.

The goal gave Barcelona renewed confidence, and the Catalan side began to enjoy more possession while looking for spaces in PSG’s defence.

However, PSG continued to create dangerous moments and eventually regained their advantage in the 72nd minute.

Doué was involved again, this time providing the delivery from a corner that Lucas Hernández attacked with a powerful header. The defender’s effort found the net and restored PSG’s lead at 2-1.

Barcelona refused to disappear from the contest.

With the match approaching its final stages, Lamine Yamal produced a moment of individual brilliance to make it 2-2 in the 79th minute.

Yamal broke into the PSG penalty area and found the finish needed to beat Matvey Safonov, bringing Barcelona level for the second time and setting up a dramatic final few minutes.

For a moment, Barcelona appeared capable of completing another comeback.

That possibility lasted only two minutes.

In the 81st minute, Vitinha restored PSG’s lead with a superb strike from the edge of the box. The Portuguese midfielder controlled the ball before producing a precise finish that left Barcelona with little chance.

PSG had turned the game around once again, and Barcelona were forced to push forward in search of another equaliser.

Instead, the additional attacking commitment created space for the hosts to exploit.

Fabián Ruiz delivered the final blow in the 86th minute, finishing from close range after a low cross from Achraf Hakimi. The goal made it 4-2 and effectively ended Barcelona’s hopes of rescuing anything from the match.

The statistics showed just how competitive the encounter was.

Barcelona enjoyed slightly more possession at 53 percent compared with PSG’s 47 percent. The visitors also recorded 18 shots, while PSG attempted 22. However, the biggest difference came in accuracy, with PSG registering 15 shots on target compared with Barcelona’s five.

That efficiency ultimately proved decisive.

Barcelona were able to control periods of the match and twice recover from behind, but PSG repeatedly punished defensive mistakes and showed greater ruthlessness when the most important chances arrived.

The result also demonstrated the mentality of Luis Enrique’s team. Even after Barcelona equalised for a second time, PSG did not allow the momentum to remain with the visitors. Vitinha responded almost immediately, while Ruiz’s late goal completed a convincing victory.

Désiré Doué Wins Man of the Match

Désiré Doué was named the Man of the Match after producing a standout performance for PSG.

The Frenchman opened the scoring with a brilliant strike and later supplied the corner that led to Lucas Hernández’s goal. His influence went beyond his goal contribution, as he constantly caused problems for Barcelona’s defence with his movement, ball carrying and attacking creativity.

Sofascore also rated Doué as the best player on the pitch, giving him a 9.2 rating. He recorded four key passes, won six duels and created several dangerous situations throughout his time on the field.

His performance was particularly important because PSG were without some of their biggest attacking names for parts of the game. Ousmane Dembélé was forced off early with an injury, while Khvicha Kvaratskhelia also left the pitch later in the contest.

Barcelona’s Perfect Start Comes to an End

For Barcelona, the defeat represents their first setback of the 2026/27 campaign.

Flick’s team had started the season with an impressive winning run and arrived in Paris full of confidence. They showed plenty of character by coming from behind twice, but PSG’s quality in the final stages proved too much.

The defensive problems will be a concern for Barcelona, particularly after conceding twice in the final nine minutes following Yamal’s equaliser.

Despite the loss, Barcelona showed that they can compete with the reigning European champions. Their ability to respond twice demonstrated their attacking quality, but PSG were simply more clinical when the match reached its decisive moments.

For PSG, meanwhile, the result sends another strong message to the rest of Europe.

The French champions had to withstand Barcelona’s pressure, recover from two equalising goals and deal with injuries during the match. Yet they still found a way to produce four goals and secure all three points.

With Doué leading the way, Vitinha delivering a spectacular response and Ruiz sealing the victory, PSG turned a tense 2-2 contest into a convincing 4-2 triumph.

It was a performance that underlined their status among the Champions League favourites and gave Barcelona a reminder of the level required to compete at the very top of European football.
